Concern about an Aluminium Rudder Stock

Hamble Marine Surveys recently assisted a concerned boat owner who discovered that there appeared to be excessive pitting and corrosion about the rudder stock on his Najad. Julian Smith of Hamble Marine Surveys arranged for a full inspection and removal of the rudder to test the tock and blade. The Aluminium rudder stock was heavily pitted around the water line and corroded to the point that the structural integrity of the stock was impaired. It was decided that a new stainless steel rudder stock should be made and this was project managed and all work signed off.

Are your Anodes Working? Dezincification!

Hamble Marine Surveys recentlly inspected a propeller during a Pre-Purchase Survey with clear signs of Dezincification due to the absence of suitable anodes and those anodes present being incorrectly bonded.

Do you have adequate anodes in the correct location on your hull and are they correctly bonded? An interesting question and I am sure one which many boat owners do not know the answer to.

New Boat Acceptance Survey

Hamble Marine Surveys has just completed an Acceptance Survey on a new Sealine F42 for export. The owner who is about to take delivery of the new vessel decided to appoint Julian Smith of Hamble Marine Surveys to survey the vessel to be assured that she is without any defects. With an impressive UK fit inventory of navigational and audio visual equipment fitted, the survey required was extensive and very detailed survey.

Hamble Marine Surveys selected by the RYA & MCA

Julian Smith of Hamble Marine Surveys has been selected by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) as part of a small group of leading marine surveyors from around Europe to attend a 3 day training course covering the MCA Code of Practice MGN 280. The Marine Coastguard Agency (MCA) were involved in the course providing clarification and training on various aspects contained in the Code of Practice. As a RYA/MCA Code of Compliance Examiner, Julian Smith is able to inspect vessels looking to comply to the Code of Practice for commercial operations.
